When playing on worlds with low Y-level, such as the Superflat default preset, and it's either night or there's a thunderstorm, Fireflies begin to spawn rapidly each tick, without respecting mob caps.
The speed of spawning seems to depend on the Y level, with lower levels spawning fireflies faster. It's fast enough that it rapidly overloads the client, causing crashes. Since Fireflies die on daylight, removing weather or nighttime resolves the overload.
This has been tested on a minimal instance, with only Naturalist and Geckolib.
