This to “bookmark” a documentation/testing-verification need that arose today.
Thankfully (in a way) I’m not the first to encounter a php56 issue wrt php.ini not being properly configured to enable the CP to display assets. More discussion can be found at https://github.com/statamic/v2-beta/issues/216 under the title, “Use of deprecated way of automatically populating HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA breaks CP AJAX calls and flow.”
So, yes, it's already been noted as an issue. However: since this thing has the potential to kill part of the "out of the box" default install experience, IMHO it ought to be documented somewhere in the installation instructions. Likewise test/verification of some kind ought to be included in the installer.php and/or check.php utilities. None of these ideas is original to me, but they're definitely worth noting.
The problem of assets just not showing up under the control panel is a show-stopper, and the solution is far from obvious.
Thanks to Jason, et al. for helping me sort it out!
