users should be able to opt out of emails.

Email can link to the opt out page

related: site admins should allow/disallow opt out.

Corollary: does the drupal mail module provide this sort of functionality by itself?

I'll delay implementing an opt out as I think most sites/users would be happy with all/nothing opt out.

I think all sites will want the ability to opt out but it'd be nice for the user to configure their own sorta opt in/out to notifications. for the time being I agree we shouldn't worry about it.

users can opt out of all emails (except for example password recovery emails) with this module https://www.drupal.org/project/opt_out

Is this good enough? I feel like it is :P

That would be perfect if we can link to the user page in the email so they can get to it easily.
