Dapp design to redeem crypto

Background

Status' Keycard team is working on a crypto redeem dapp. The purpose of this dapp is to allow distributing ERC20 tokens and NFT's. The benefits of the approach:

No wallet needed from recipients. Funds can be distributed on Keycard or burner wallets. This is great for people who are new to crypto
Limited to no action needed from recipients when distributing funds (i.e. receiving a Keycard and tapping it once)
Making crypto tangible, distribution can happen on physical cards
Forwarding of funds, meaning it's great for gifting (User A can receive funds, but redeem to the account of user B)

Assignment

Design a UI for the redeem dapp using, at least partially, Rocket Web3 components, which can be accessed in Figma when starting work on this issue
The UI needs screens that allow the user to check what are assets, enter code, define address, and redeem the funds. There are likely states for these depending on whether a web3 wallet is connected
UI is responsive, mobile first
Estimated effort is 12-16h

User stories

As user I want to understand what I need to do in order to use the dapp and redeem funds, because as a new crypto user I am not familiar with web3 specific requirements
As a user I want to check the amount and tokens that can be redeemed, because I want to judge what address to withdraw to
As a user I want to set the receiver address to redeem the funds to, because I want to control where the funds are kept

Primary target user

Crypto enthusiast that already has an Ethereum compatible wallet set up

Secondary target user

New to crypto, unfamiliar with web3 and does not have a Ethereum compatible wallet set up

Deliverables

Wireframes capturing all states of the dapp
Detailed designs delivered in Figma (we can temporarily add you to our team if you don't have a subscription)

Notes

The Design team and Keycard team are eager to support you and answer any questions you may have on the dapp and Web3 product design in general.

I've been following Status for a while and have been looking for an opportunity to contribute to its ecosystem. I'd like to tackle this design challenge and work on this assignment.

Action plan:

Desk research:
- Reading and understanding the provided functional specification
- Since Status is open source there are plenty of information out there for me to get a better understanding of how Status and Keycard work and would provide further insights for design synthesis
- As stated in the brief I could also get further support from the design & Keycard team. Where I’d need detailed insights on a topic I’d definitely reach out to talk with people familiar with the problem.
User journey mapping:
- The brief outlines the features needed for the dapp but it’s essential to see the optimal experience from the users’ standpoint.
- I’d focus on the experience of the receiving user (A), but consider the user who “funds/gifts” user A
- Ideally, the journey map should be created alongside with user interviews, but since the assignment’s scope is for designs I’d try to map an experience I’m familiar with:
- I recently bought Ethereum for my younger sister (12 y/o) which I’d like to give her at some point as a gift. I’ve considered some options how to give it to her (paper wallet; set up a wallet on her phone; send it to my dad as a “custodian”; tell her that she has it, but keep it on my wallet and send it to her when she needs it, etc.) but the Keycard + dapp option seems like a very smooth experience.

Responsive UI design in Figma using the provided design library
Prototype of key user flow
Guerrilla user testing, ideally with my sister

I’m a multidisciplinary digital product designer, deeply & widely passionate about the worlds of design-thinking, exponential-thinking, and systems-thinking - in particular, Human-Centered Design, Distributed Computing (Blockchain), and Circular Economics respectively.

I actually got into product design at about the same time I got into the world of blockchain, mid-2015 when I first met Vitalik Buterin in Waterloo when he had dropped out and received the Thiel Fellowship; inspired, I subsequently got accepted into the Thiel Foundation community by applying to their Thiel Summits.

Over the years, I've spent my time designing various digital products within this Distributed Computing space and otherwise, with the most notable being: BlockX Labs (3 blockchain developer tools such as the Universal Cryptofaucet), Raise (a blockchain-based corporate asset management solution), the Royal Bank of Canada (a proposal for stablecoin integration into the RBC Wallet app), Belt (a fintech app all about investing one’s spare change in cryptoassets), and Kleros (an Ethereum-based legaltech startup). I’ve also consulted for a blockchain-focused design studio called Chockablock, and several blockcahin startups such as Pointchain, Coral Protocol, Geeq, Trustwave, Carbon Block, the Sustainability Exchange, ProofZero, and am a member of the Celo Prosperity Circle.

Why am I passionate about Blockchain? It’s the next evolutionary step of the internet and digital communications — being someone who attended the same high school and university that famed thought-leader Marshall MacLuhan attended I believe that blockchain is a part of that new “medium” which will power the “global village” of our collective tomorrow. It will enable the next evolutionary step of capitalism as it will allow us to escape the cycles of booms & bust that we constantly see in the business world as well as reduce the disparity of rich-and-poor. It’s also because of the people in the industry, the friends I’ve made, and the love I have for this global community of changemakers. This came about due to the timing of it all as well, as I was fortunate enough to have gotten into this industry before all this recent hype. I was an early-adopter of this technology before I needed to see the “money” in it. I’m normally someone who can see the intrinsic values of things without having to see a superficial value in order to feel validated about whatever thing I’m looking at.
