thanks! I'll have a look at your changes in the weekend.
@warper: I tried out your fork. SWFupload worked in safari and firefox 3.5, but only for one file at a time and no upload progress animations. Did it work for you?
Correct, multi-upload doesn't work - most likely I used the wrong event hook and reload of the page happens too early. Upload progress is missing because no < div > is provided - I wanted to keep your page layout. Maybe this should be dropped. A popup for multi-upload may be an option.
from latest checkout:
Mac laptop: OSX 10.6.1, with safari 4.0.3, firefox 3.5.3, opera 10, and Flash 10.0 r32. Safari: Flash crashes when the "Upload" button is clicked Firefox: clicking the upload button reloads the page, no popup Opera: blank page
My freebsd 7 desktop, which doesn't have flash (bit of a pain, not worth it): Firefox: page loads, button is unresponsive (of course)
Is it possible to have a non-flash, js fallback for systems with no flash or flash problems, for maximum compatibility? multiple file select is cool, but not a crucial feature
@tehfink: I'll add a fallback to a plain form/js upload when I setup the replacement for the flash uploader. I think I'll go with SWFupload... or maybe the YUI uploader.
This may be solved in http://github.com/warper/django-image-filer/commit/4126a1b313e536c684a65b7941b7ccbe5ed1e41f as I replaced uploadify with SWFUpload. Under Windows it worked in IE8, plain did not work in srware Iron (^=Google Chrome) and crashed Firefox 3.0 and 3.5. Upgrading uploadify to version 2.0 and switching to POST did not help either. Downside: SWFUpload should not be activated by a javascript link (deprecated). The source website notes that this is due to Flash 10 not supporting this anymore. A custom graphic keeps the looks OK at least on Windows.
