[Bug] alt-drag stop working after a while #123

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

hi,

I write to report that altdrag stop working after a while.

I have no error messages, I just note that I can't drag windows anymore. to
make altdrag work again, I go in the systray, I click on the altdrag icon (to
disable altdrag). I then get the error message that I joined with this bug
report (UnhookWindowsHookEx).

I close the error message, and re-click on the systray icon (to enable
altdrag), and everything works fine for a while again. it doesn't matter if I
reboot my computer, the problem always reappear.

My OS is Windows 7, and I use virtuawin for virtual desktops.
(this is @work. @home I use win 8 without virtuawin, and it works fine)
I tried the 0.9 stable and the 1.0 beta version and they both have the problem.

Can you consider writing error messages to a log file to make bug easier to
report?

regards

Hello.

Do you hibernate, sleep, or lock the computer a lot? This may be the reason.

Try the instructions I've just added to the wiki.
http://code.google.com/p/altdrag/wiki/About#AltDrag_mysteriously_stops_working

I will try to make this less annoying in the next version.

This is actually likely the only error message that can bother you, but you can
press the "Copy error" button. Maybe you didn't see it? :D

/ Stefan

thanks for the quick response
I lock my computer a lot, but almost never put him to hibernate/sleep. I'll pay
attention to theses states to notice if they are the root of the problem and
come back to you. (I applied the instructions you've sent me, so let's hope it
don't come back)

about the error messages: it does not annoy me to take a screenshot :)
what I wanted to say that I have no log to show you that could help you
diagnose the problem. I only have this "unhook" message that appear only if I
click on the systray icon

Ok, make sure you reboot too. I just added that bit to the instructions.

I was referring to the error message in the annoying part. Hopefully I can make
AltDrag detect when the hooks are stopped and then restart them.

The newly released release candidate has a better error message, and the
installer now has a new page which helps you apply this registry tweak. Closing
the issue.
