Did you have the option enabled that limits the number of negative samples? (Which you should, if you overwhelm the network with negative samples then training will take forever.)
There's actually no issue--fantastic work by the way! ...I did limit the negative samples. After closer inspection, I observed that there were only a small relative percentage of tiles containing the object of interest--despite checking the limit-negative-samples. The images are high resolution drone pics and many of them only contain one object of interest that is very small--so I still end up with many empty tiles.
