Social Media Motion Graphics #87

Open nathanmurdock opened 7 years ago

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

I feel we could use some eye-catching, motion-graphic ads for the individual & family market with the general messaging centered around, "(Learn) Music Your Way." Right now for ads, I'm just using pictures from the photoshoot, but they're not getting a lot of engagement, which makes sense, there's not much going on in the pics, they're pretty static.

Here's some brainstorming ideas that I had were:

Just had another idea: we post at least one animation gif a week that is about a fun music or music psychology fact. We could create a backlog of facts before posting. @createoutloud what do you think? How long do you think it would take to create one animation?

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

I dig the idea. Just a heads up on why I'm changing this and other projects to 5's. For context. Copying and pasting text and sizing graphics is more of a 1-2 level task. If I need to create something from scratch that might take sketching and multiple revisions I feel the task needs to be around 5+...as we get into a flow though I can see things getting faster once we have a style and workflow down, but to start it out I gotta gauge it higher than a 2 for sure.

So to answer your questions on how long it'll take is hard to say until we do the first couple but could take a day or twos work to create and animate.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Shoot me a couple music psychology facts to test out bro.

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

We'll get those over to you as soon as we can bro.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Sounds great. Stoked to test them out.

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

@createoutloud Here's three to get you started so you can develop a theme and workflow for these. Can't wait to see 'em!

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Nice! I'm gonna start wrapping my brain around some visual ideas. Thanks for sending these over. Stoked!

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

@createoutloud any update how these are coming along? I know we put a few new designs on your plate, but I just want to follow up. Thanks!

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

@createoutloud Any updates?

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Here's what I'm thinking for visual ideas. Let me know if these are good with you before I start creating. Sorry we didnt go through this brainstorm earlier.

  1. Professional athletes often use music to aid the training of their bodies to perform more consistently.

Usain Bolt (or some runners outline) running in a loop with headphones on. Cool?

  1. Our ears encode frequency and amplitude of sound waves through an organ called the cochlea, which vibrates to stimulate microscopic hair cells that generate electrical signal to the auditory nerve that is processed in the auditory cortex. Talk about an ear drumset!

Maybe something like this, simplified with lines moving through the connection in a loop. Cool?

3.A review of 23 studies covering almost 1,500 patients found that listening to music reduced heart rate, blood pressure and anxiety in heart disease patients (Bradt & Dileo, 2009).

Beating heart with headphones on. Cool?

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Here's a link to #2. I said "like this" but didnt past a link to it: http://blog.hearingassociatesnorthridge.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/CentralAuditoyPathway.jpg

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

Hey @createoutloud,

Sorry you've been sick with the flu, that's really sucks :( Hope you get feeling better soon!

As for the graphics: 1.) I like the idea here, but let's stick with making it a more generic outline of an athlete, I don't want to mimic any real-life athlete, I'd prefer to be original. 2.) I like the general idea here, though I agree if you're going to use the pic you sent as a model to go off of, I'd definitely simplify it. It makes it easier to understand and sometimes people don't like seeing the inside of the human body, it grosses them out, haha. For this one if we could throw in a tiny drumset inside the ears, that'd be cool. 3.) Yeah, I like this idea. If we can throw in colors, I'd be cool to do a loop with a dark-colored heart beating slowly, then progressively fades to a brighter color and the heart beats faster. And make the heart g-rated looking as well, haha.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago
  1. Sounds good.
  2. Yup. Simplified for sure. It's a little geeky as is so for people to get it it'll need to be dumbed down haha!
  3. G-Rated heart lol! Got it.

And thanks for the well wishes.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

I swear this didnt take 18 days to create but here is this nontheless. Sorry it took a bit to get back to you. I'll try to get faster and faster with the turn around on these @nathanmurdock

I did a simple one first and then did a version with a more interesting background.

The file was to big for github so download it here: https://adobe.ly/2ixBo4E

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

@createoutloud love it, it looks really cool! These will be

I do have a few thoughts, however:

1.) To give the post some context, I want to add some text to the graphics. The text doesn't have to be animated, and it can be an even more simplified version of each music fact. In this case, we can type out: "Amazing Music Fact: Listening to music can reduce heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety." When I actually post the animation online, I can elaborate more on the source of the music fact in the post's description. 2.) How about some headphones over the heart that animate on the same beat as the heart does? 3.) Since the music fact is referencing the fact that music reduces anxiety and blood pressure, I'm thinking it'll make more sense to reverse the animation you have. I.e. have the heart start out red and beating fast and slowly progress towards blue and beating slowly.

Let me know what you think!

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Cool. I'll work on this. Having headphones will take a bit more work in my mind with but I'm up for the challenge.

  1. No problem. I'll add the text.
  2. I'll give it a try but I'll also create a version like these without headphones encase that idea doesnt work very well.
  3. Red to Blue. Got it.
nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

Awesome, thanks. Also, just FYI, the initial plan right now is to just post one of these once a month.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Oh nice! That helps me feel like I can give each one the time it needs to be cool and make changes.

Before I start animating I want to get these in front of you for feedback. Let me know if you want to go with one of these or if you have feedback. I'm thinking the heart and red text will change color in the animation. The red text will turn to blue when the heart turns blue.

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

Nice! I like the first one better, and I like the idea of the text changing color, too.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Perfect! Thanks. Ping you back with the animation. 👍🏽

@createoutloud Loving these. I also like the first one (with the blue background). Super rad idea with the heart and text changing colors with the pulse to the light blue. freaking awesome ideas.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

Thanks bro!

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

What do you guys think of this one? https://adobe.ly/2Aeux3z

Personally I think it's to busy with the text but in the context of educating I get it.

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

@createoutloud I love it! Let's reverse the speed as well though so it starts out beating fast and slows down, then we'll call it good for this one.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

I'm glad you brought that up because I was thinking about it in an instagram context so the video is just under 10 seconds long so I was thinking on instagram it doesnt matter if it's slow first and then fast because it'll loop...but after you mentioned that I'm thinking this might need to be longer for facebook or any other socials you'll be using this on...so with that being said, how long would you like this video? Let's figure that out before I make the change.

Also, I thought the speed was connected to the color. Red being slow and blue being fast? As far as colors go Blue is a more calming color so visually felt like more a slow beat where red is more intense...anyways, help clarify that for me as well so I'm on the same page.

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

@createoutloud For the sake of time and simplicity, let's just keep it at 10 seconds for now. And yeah, I agree, I want the blue text and heart to appear when it's beating slowly (and vice versa), so exactly what you last posted, just have it start out beating fast and move to beating slowly. Sorry if that wasn't clear before.

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

I think i got it this time :) https://adobe.ly/2hZWeqb

nathanmurdock commented 7 years ago

BOOM! This is perfect! Thanks a lot!

createoutloud commented 7 years ago

No problem! Now to set up the next one. Thanks!

nathanmurdock commented 6 years ago

@createoutloud sorry I haven't followed up in awhile, have you had a chance to work on another one of these yet?

createoutloud commented 6 years ago

Sorry bro. I'm in crunch time with Susan and the Goats and Troll book project. Have some deadlines to get that done this week so hopefully I can get back to this right after that. Thanks for checking in on it! Stoked to get back to it.

nathanmurdock commented 6 years ago

Hey @createoutloud in addition to the brand guide you're working on if you could knock at least another one of these out that'd be awesome!

createoutloud commented 6 years ago

For sure! Will do.
