As you read I would recommend discussing these, briefly, with me/Kendal/Kaizad/Vanessa...someone with a good soil background who can answer questions and provide perspective.
[ ] The introduction and methods of the first Millenial paper, Abramoff et al. 2018. This has crucial and readable background about the goals of the model and problems with current soil moidels.
[ ] Schimel 2013, "Soil carbon: Microbes and global carbon". This is a short and accessible perspective about Will Wieder's 2013 paper that looked at the effects of putting microbes into an earth system model.
[ ] Section 1 of Kyker-Snowman et al. 2021 has a good discussion of the importance of integrating measurements and modeling; very applicable to why we're doing a model sensitivity analysis as part of STEEP-CF.
[ ] The introduction, Figure 1, and last part ("Harnessing uncertainty: the way forward") of the discussion of Sulman et al. 2018. This is a multi-model comparison and they do a good job of describing the different approaches that models take.
[ ] Finally, the introduction and discussion of Hopple et al. 2023! Given that you're going to be describing simulations of the TEMPEST site, it seems important to be able to talk confidently about this recent paper.
Hope these are useful, and I'm happy to discuss any of them if useful.
