Chromecast reboots every ~24 hours when running a Dashcast browser #20

We have a Chromecast (v3) running our custom web application on a screen which gives instructions to customers. We start it with the catt command, which loads the Dashcast app on the chromecast and shows the website - this process works great.

But every day around 3-4 PM (EET) the Chromecast reboots itself (shuts down nicely with a "restarting...." screen. We are monitoring the Chromecast every minute and will load the web page again if it's not shown, but this gives a very bad experience to the customers coming in at the time of the reboot.

I've never experienced this in Chromecasts that were playing videos from netflix, youtube etc. only with our chromecast running Dashcast and displaying a website.

Is there any way to prevent the automatic reboots? I guess the popular streaming apps does something to prevent it? Maybe it's a setting within the Dashcast Chromecast app code etc?

I cannot tell you how pleased I am to read this report. I've been banging my head against a brick wall for weeks. Tried different chromecast devices, different power supplies, same result.

Interesting to see the time that you're experiencing this. I have the same time, but in a completely different time-zone, I'm UTC+8, but I see it also between 3-4 PM (give or take an hour).

It's not related to when the hardware was first powered on, nor when the firmware was reset.

I'm not yet sure if it's caused by DashCast, but we have this in common.

I'm also using catt to set the display.

I wonder if changing the TimeZone on the Chomecast would change the actual reboot time.

Any follow up on this ?

I wish.

Google essentially denies there is any issue and I've given up on pursuing it with them.

I have confirmed that the reboot is not caused by DashCast, the Chromecast automatically reboots, even when it's sitting idle. The "work-around" is to set the local time-zone for the Chromecast to one where ~4pm falls at a time where local users are not impacted and ignore the problem. Of course this doesn't actually solve anything.

With as I understand it, essentially the discontinuation of the Chromecast platform, this doesn't look like it's ever going to be fixed.

Arf, of course...

I have confirmed that the reboot is not caused by DashCast

That's something I wanted to know, at least.

Thanks very much for your clear answer.
