Remove fun factor calculation #292

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Although the calculation of fun factors from cache logs is a nice example of
text analysis and applied Bayesian probability, I'd like to know how big the
user base actually is.
I'm aware that "fav points" cannot replace "fun factors" completely, but they
at least are language-independent. Anyone who built a set of reference patterns
for anything else but English?

Didn't use it anyway...tried it once or twice ages ago, but it didn't work the
way I expected it to do (maybe my fault though).

Did you really try to analyse German logs? Have you kept some data files?
(While the "short name generator" learned about German a few years ago, nobody
seemed to care about fun factor analysis.)

It's a change too harsh for 3.19.1 - but I'll keep it on my list for 3.19.2 or
after. For sure, 3.20 (whenever it will be ready) won't know about fun
(factors, of course :)) any longer.
It's your chance now to convince me that such a change would be a Very Bad
Idea...

3.20 is right around the corner (mostly due to Issue 297), and won't have fun
factors anymore. The old code is still available in a SVN branch.
