for a previous class, I accessed isis using the Secure Shell program on a PC in the library. i think when you open the program, check that the hostname is isis.unc.edu and user is your onyen. then you will be prompted for you password.
This is correct that it must be secure but I think you can use SFTP. Sorry, not sure about using this service.

I use SFTP. Fetch did the same thing to me initially, but I retyped my password (I think it saved an old one) and it worked fine. Good luck!
