I'd also like to vote for this feature. I'm currently getting sick with the 
image problem. I have an (portrait) image which is to high for my page and i 
cannot sclae it because other images are landscape. they are scaled to the 
height of 26cm if i try to limit the height by setting it.

I would like this as well.  I have a set of dynamic images that all need to fit 
within a fixed size container, and some images are larger and some smaller than 
the container.  I can't use background images because the small images are 
upscaled, and the client doesn't want that to happen.  max-width/max-height are 
my best option.
