(I somehow manage to delete previous comment, which was exactly the same)
Would you consider adding a full channel redirection matrix (a-la ffdshow)?
Seems to be more useful in some cases, and perhaps not much added work once you
dig into channel mixing anyway,

A full channel redirection matrix is good and all, but a simpler function to
up/downmix would be better to start off with.

libswresample in the ffmpeg project shows potential, and its downmixing
functionality is already pretty good.
I've put in a request for them to expose configuration for the channel matrix
directly to applications that want to use it, which would allow me to just use
that library and feed it with a matrix.

A basic first draft of (down-)mixing functionality has been implemented.
See http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1580617#post1580617 for details.

Please at least add a minimum of up-mixing too for Stereo to Quadraphonic

Please add a 5.0 output speaker option in LAV audio filter mixing-tab.
There is a 4.0 and a 5.1 option, but not one that characterises my 5.0 setup:
2 fullband speaker for left and right,
3 small speakers for mid and surround left and right
I don't have a receiver that can handle DTS HD and TrueHD, therefore I let LAV
decode these formats to 6-channel PCM. With this option I can redirect the LFE
channel to the full band speakers and raise the bass volume to the correct
level.
