You are correct that the five fonts packaged in the STIX-Word folder contain all of the glyphs
The glyph tables work off the version 1.0 packaging of the fonts and unfortunately the pop-up alert and page re-direction were outdated and mis-leading. The site has been updated to alleviate any confusion, however the Glyph tables still work only off original packaging (STIXGeneral in the beta release).

I just downloaded STIXv1.1.0-beta1.zip, unzipped it and installed the 5 fonts in the STIX-Word folder. My understanding is that these 5 fonts contain everything. However, when I click on `STIX Fonts Glyph Tables` at http://www.stixfonts.org/, it displays some or all of allGlyphs.html and then an error message pops up: 'One or more STIX (scientific) fonts are not installed on your computer. Please install ALL the STIX fonts. Go to www.stixfonts.org to register as a beta tester.' When I click on OK the glyph table disappears and is replaced by the stixfonts.org home page. This is with Firefox 7.0.1 under Windows 7. I can view the newly installed STIX fonts in OpenOffice.org Writer. Do I need to install additional fonts? Do I need to register as a beta tester? Why does the glyph table disappear? Thank you. - Robert
