24-pt Roman bold too bold #12

Closed davidmjones closed 6 years ago

As shown in the attached image, Roman bold shows as much too heavy in OpenOffice.org Writer (OOo 3.3 under Windows 7). The italic bold weight is OK. When I export the document to PDF all of the weights look fine. Is this something to report to you or to OOo? - Robert

Demonstration of excessive weight of Roman bold

I was just looking at the fonts as displayed by Windows Preview of the .otf files and realized that the excessive weight of the Roman bold is specific to the 24-pt size, which seems too heavy compared with the sizes below and above. The 24-pt stroke width is essentially the same as that at 36-pt, rather than being intermediate between 18 and 36.

My previous observation resulted from using 12-pt in OOo Writer but viewing it at 200%, invoking the 24-pt font. I've changed the summary of this issue from 'Roman bold too bold in OpenOffice.org' to '24-pt Roman bold too bold'.

After reviewiing this issue it seems to be a problem of the rendering of OOo 3.3, as the exported pdf shows correctly.
