Japanese version of ducumentation? #102

Open lilisako opened 3 years ago

lilisako commented 3 years ago

Name of the Streamlit feature whose docs need improvement: I think it's nice to have a Streamlit documentation in Japanese. There are so many Japanese articles about Streamlit, and I also did write a blog before.

If you want a Japanese translation and its maintenance, I would love to help it out!

remarks

Last year there was an issue about making a Chinese version of it ( streamlit/docs#99 )

Thanks for the report @lilisako ! I will be sure to pass this info on to the Documentation team. I'm curious, can you share some links to articles that showcase Streamlit in Japanese? 😊

lilisako commented 3 years ago

@kmcgrady Thanks for the quick reply! Here is the link for my blog✨ https://note.com/_risako/n/n78bdbabdb08b

And here are some examples of articles/blogs about streamlit in Japanese

Can't list them all but as you can see many blogs explain detail about "how to build apps with Streamlit".

If you have any questions about Japanese community, let me know!

Can I start working on this task? I just want to make sure no other people working on the same issue!

I also want to ask that if I should make one PR for the entire translation, or split them into small PR? Thanks in advance!

Hello @lilisako, thanks for your enthusiasm  !

Don't worry about concurrent translations, I think you are the first one expressing motivation in translating in Japanese :) and we will make sure to redirect any other initiatives to this issue (or another tool, depending on how we would like to coordinate the efforts, but you will always stay in the loop!).

Anyway, we're currently thinking about how to manage and maintain multilingual translations, in collaboration with the community (as you say to prevent multiple people translating the same page, while at the same time making sure the Streamlit "feel" stays in the translated pages). The Documentation team will follow-up with you soon to start something (I'm just a Creator with some insider insight )

Thanks for your patience, Fanilo :balloon:

Thanks for clarifying it out!

Do you know about other users who wanted to help on this Japanese translation?

I haven't asked anybody but I'll make sure other people collaborate (or at least review) before I make a first PR.

Okay! I'll wait until the documentation team contacts me💬

Best regards, Risako

Hey @lilisako,

@snehankekre and I currently own the docs (we are actually in the middle of transitioning to full ownership to him!). We have been working on some exciting updates to our documentation that we will be releasing in the next couple of months 😉

These new updates won't (yet) include translations BUT we are very keen to get our documentation translated into other languages! However, starting the translations hinges on us first completing these new updates.

Because of this, our first step would be to have a meeting with you and discuss what parts of the documentation you want to have translated, and essentially make a plan of action. That way when the updates have gone live you can start on the translations then (if you are still interested a couple of months down the line).

Can you send your email to us and we will get a meeting set up in the next few weeks to discuss this?

@mesmith027 Hi! Thanks for the updates and I also excited for the new release! Yes! I'm interested in long term contribution. I didn't know where to send my email info so I added my contact email on my Github profile. Or you can contact me on Linkedin! https://www.linkedin.com/in/risako-hamano-23a650153
