Grouping Stage Epic

As a facilitator, I want participants to be able to group related ideas, So that we can vote upon and focus on a particular area to improve.

Lots of thoughts surrounding this. We could solve for a full-blown stage, or first solve the need to dedupe items, as that's likely lower cost, and provides value in that votes for the same idea don't get split up.

We could have:

• duplicate elimination or grouping as a distinct stage that follows idea generation if we want to allow mass grouping, accomplished via:
  • collaborative drag and drop interface?
  • many users dragging/merging at the same time, with ideas potentially shifting under their feet
  • allowing users to apply tags to an idea, and aggregating ideas by tag?
  • tags could be created solely by facilitator, and those populate at the top
  • we could pre-populate tags to avoid the submission of tags work
    • "Communication"
    • "Technology"
    • "Design"
    • "Ceremonies/Meetings"
    • "Scope"
    • "Alignment", et cetera
  • They could be submitted and applied by participants?
  • can an item have multiple tags?

OR

if we're just solving for deduping:

• the facilitator alone could be prompted to dedupe DURING idea-generation stage as they see fit, OR
• participants could flag ideas as duplicates and leave the facilitator to confirm/reject the merge

Update: Just had a great chat with @mtcarlso, and feel great about the chat, as the ideas that came out of it will allows us to build this feature incrementally, first for something that works for both mobile AND desktop, then building out the desktop-specific experience.

The mobile AND desktop experience, at a high level: Users are able to select an idea to "group" with another idea (or "group" of items) via an icon that's exposed on each idea in the grouping phase.

We can deliver a relatively low cost UI update, that will necessitate much of the backend work required for grouping, as well as a lot of the connective tissue in the action creators, reducers, and components.

Drag and Drop isn't really viable for mobile. But mobile users need a means of interacting. Then we deliver the drag and drop interface on desktop.
