We are still using prometheus/client_java version 0.16.
In September 2023, Prometheus released 1.0, and since have released a number of 1.X releases. The 1.X releases bring many improvements and changes including support for OpenTelemetry output formats.
There are breaking changes from 0.16, but we should update to the latest 1.X release, and look at the required changes to support the OpenMetrics formats.
