iOS feature request: Standalone password generator #432

I think it would be extremely useful to offer standalone generators for usernames and passwords etc, offered via the sharesheet on iOS, perhaps available as a Siri shortcut for use in the widget section. Is there any interest in this?

It’s a bit of a pain to quickly generate something if you’re in a hurry.

Would it add an entry to a database or you mean just provide the password/username string on the clipboard or something?

My initial thought was just have a stand-alone generator with the same adjustable settings as strongbox itself create the strings and save to the clipboard. But there could be an option menu for the ultimate convenience if it’s doable: Save to clipboard Create new entry

OK, can't quite envision it, can you flesh out design/wireframe it?

I can't see it taking super high priority for a while.

I’m afraid I’m neither a dev nor a designer, so I doubt I would accurately be able to convoy what I mean in that manner.

In keepassXC, you can generate strings outside of any database. Edit You can already do this in Strongbox to.

I propose this functionality, perhaps in conjunction with Siri Shortcuts. This would essentially enable a standalone generator using strongox’s algorithms available via the share sheet in ios, or from a widget or shortcut placed on the home screen. You can then create a quick password/phrase/code/username independently of the app.

If that is possible to create a new entry, that’s a bonus, but a standalone generator is my request and would be an extremely useful tool.

At the moment, creating a password means you have to create an entry first. Sometimes, this is a bit of a pain, especially when compared to the iCloud functionality which suggests passwords on the fly. I find iCloud suggested passwords to simple, so avoid using them unless necessary.

There are multiple Siri Shortcuts already developed which creates these type of things, but I’m unable to verify and therefore trust these options.

OK, noted. Thanks Miles, doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Thanks, I think it would be useful, but I understand my needs are not everyone’s!!
