6 years ago At a cursory glance the gfx rom entropy seemed random enough to be compressed somehow, which would've required reverse engineering the game code, it turned out to just be an encoding for the DMA chip to allow it to skip transparent outer parts of bitmaps. Working with the skip bits is real tedious though (if there's no further updates to make the tool write gfx to new roms within few weeks, feel free to pick this up future people).
There's an obsolete CD/comicbook commercial offer screen in Mortal Kombat 2. It's possible to disable the screen with dip switches but it'd be nice if it was possible to reuse such a rare vestigial feature for something else.
