This seems good to me, but I don't know how localisation works in these things; if the desktop file exists, is that enough to make it work? Or do I need to do something else to "activate" it? @popey will also know the answer here, I imagine.

I think you can modify the existing hushboard.desktop file and add the language specific values in there, rather than creating an it.hushboard.desktop file. That becomes unmaintainable after a longer period of time (as more languages will be added).

Yeah, I typically just chuck them all in the same desktop file.
