I would have to check my notes on that board, from memory it may be a reverse polarity protection diode. If you've fitted it and everything is working, then I would leave alone
It is a 5V Zener diode.
Ok, that was added to attempt to limit the voltage to prevent over voltage conditions. If everything is working, leave as it is.
For the 4.4 controller, diode D7 is marked as "not fitted", but I mounted the diode. Does it have a disadvantage?
