Open r002 opened 3 years ago
I enrolled in audit mode. I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick with it. It depends on whether or not I get the job I applied for. We'll see.
@anitabe404 Most excellent! This shall be the autumn of machine learning! π Good luck on the job application! Sending positive vibes & thoughts your way!! π
Thursday
Autumn has arrived! π₯³π As if a switch was suddenly flipped, yesterday the weather here in Cincinnati suddenly cooled significantly. Halleluiah!!
In other news: So last summer I'd reviewed several edX offerings online because I'd been considering diving into data science and that entire field more. I'd already done several Coursera classes in previous years but last May I thought I'd more fully commit and tackle something beefier in the field to really get a taste for what all this "big data" hoopla was about. Anyway, after purchasing both, I decided eventually to finish the Georgia Tech - Intro to Modeling Analytics course and had put the MITx program on the backburner, thinking that I could return to the program later anytime at my convenience.
It turns out that there is a 24-month expiration on bundle packages! π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
Omg-- I feel this policy is new because last year, before buying the MITx bundle, I'd scoured the documentation everywhere and don't recall ever seeing this "24-month" rule. Anyway, now I'm in a position where I need to "use it or lose it" π€. Luckily, fall term hasn't spun up yet-- the next class in the five-class certificate program starts on
September 6
. I have registered! After poking around online, I did find a copy of the 2019 Summer syllabus. I've already seen much of the material before (clustering, neural networks, etc) but the coursework appears to be a ton more Python-focused as opposed to theory-heavy (as the GTx survey class has been). Also-- fall term's a bit longer (15 vs 13 weeks) but it looks like the material is largely the same, with one midterm and one final. According to the course page, the estimated workload is 10-14 hours a week over 15 weeks.
Anyway, if anyone's game to join (@anitabe404?), hop on board! π€ Also-- even if you don't want to purchase the certificate, like all edX classes, there is always a free
audit track
available. Starting next Monday, I'll be embarking upon this new adventure though and will be regularly posting my progress here onStudyDash
so anyone's welcome to follow along. Here we go!! ππ
