adding a wire frame to the 3D rendering, or a colour variation in each of the sections, will allow for an easier to see maze.

Just adding a line to each edge of this will probably suffice

... actually... this might be better solved by adapting the lighting to highlight the edges...

just a thought

If you can get the lighting to work like that it will feel more natural, but failing that a line round the edge would work too.
