Strange issue after upgrading to OSX Yosemite 10.10.2 (14C68m) #580

Closed G33kLabs closed 9 years ago

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

Hi,

I've just upgraded osx to version 10.10.2 (14C68m) a few minutes ago and after install the, restart, sublime text looks like 'zoomed' x 2. Bottom status bar, explorer, text editor... I can't do anything since the upgrade !

Infos : MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) Yosemite 10.10.2 (14C68m)

I've just deleted my ~/Library/Application Support/Sublime* and it does not change nothing. capture d ecran 2014-11-25 a 22 08 22

Have you an idea ?

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

My build version is 3066 and is the last available.

FichteFoll commented 9 years ago

I know nothing about OSX, but if there are application-specific DPI settings you might want to mess with them.

Please open the ST console and check the first line for the DPI scaling that ST detected.

Can't scroll anything. Here is a full screenshot.

PS : I'm an iOS developper and i've installed the last beta version of yosemite 10.10.2 .

wbond commented 9 years ago

@G33kLabs Does it work properly with 10.10.1?

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

Yes, correctly in 10.10.1

wbond commented 9 years ago

@G33kLabs That makes me think it is an issue with the beta

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

Me too :) I'll backup my config in both "Application Support" and try to start from a fresh install...

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

Same issue with a fresh install and "Application Support" for local user cleaned...

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

With a difference at least, I can scroll into the console !

Here is the full output :

Now with stable version 3065 and it fails too.

A change in DPI detection on OSX Api's ?

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

Wait... I've have this bug on spotify lists too... All is normal but main window is over zoomed...

I'm thinking about an OSX update fail ! Or a big change in the resolution reporting. capture d ecran 2014-11-25 a 22 48 39

But i'm not able to determine the relationship...

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

VLC is not working too. It's really not a sublime text issue... But a XXX OSX beta version !

FichteFoll commented 9 years ago

Well, it might be that there were changes in the osx API that require applications to adjust, but otoh they shouldn't just do breaking changes anyway.

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

This release should have to be called alpha and never been online. But the SublimeText team have to be ready, because changes are scheduled indeed...

Restoring to Yosemite 10.10.1 with TimeMachine was the only solution I found to be able to work again.

mrala commented 9 years ago

Scaling works as expected when using discrete graphics but not when using the integrated Intel GPU.

davidkaneda commented 9 years ago

@mrala Is there a way to switch? This just started happening to me and it sucks.

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

@mrala No Way for me, and I was obliged to restore the OS with a time machine backup.

davidkaneda commented 9 years ago

Just fyi for anyone else who got on 10.2- you can just install 10.1 via the App Store-

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

Good news !

mrala commented 9 years ago

@davidkaneda @G33kLabs assuming you have a Mac with a discrete GPU, you can use gfxCardStatus to manually switch between integrated or discrete mode.

worldchanger commented 9 years ago

I have noticed that if I connect an external monitor via thunderbolt or mirror my display to an apple tv it switches the app into a "non zoomed" state and everything works fine.

ahmetb commented 9 years ago

Are there any solutions other than downgrading to 10.10.1? My Macbook does not have dual GPUs and therefore gfxCardStatus is not a solution for me.

It started to happen 15 days after upgrading to this developer seed:

BTW This also is happening on Finder gallery previews, this is weird:

I don't have a retina display to try this on but does setting the Sublime Text application to "Low Resolution" mode help? From http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5266 ...

image

ahmetb commented 9 years ago

@perry-clarke yes, it helps the disproportional resolution problem go away, but then Sublime Text runs non-retina. I don't think anybody can put up with this.

ghost commented 9 years ago

Ok, that makes sense. If you're seeing this on a beta of 10.10.2 be sure to report the bug to Apple via https://bugreport.apple.com ... that's the only way stuff gets fixed.

ahmetb commented 9 years ago

@perry-clarke I believe they must be aware or at least Spotify devs must have noticed. I see the same problem in Finder.app's cover flow view. Could it be some sort of misuse of the Retina-related APIs? Only Finder/Spotify/Sublime is behaving this way on my machine?

It is supposed to look like this:

worldchanger commented 9 years ago

That fixes the issue for me.

taraszerebecki commented 9 years ago

enabling opening in low-res mode actually does fix the issue in Spotify as well as Popcorn Time for example.

another bug i came out with after upgrading to 10.10.2 is – it's not possible to change the wallpaper, cause they are not visible lol. check this out 2015-01-06 12 14 09

and yeah, the bug w/ cover flow is driving me crazy...

G33kLabs commented 9 years ago

In that place, is there a crazy mind that upgraded his yosemite version to the last 14C99d ? Don't know why but on that case, I'll wait before testing it myself :)

worldchanger commented 9 years ago

I upgraded mine hahaha! And it appears that they have fixed the issue with sublime text and Spotify. You no longer have to open them in low resolution mode.

worldchanger commented 9 years ago

I would agree, but I do have up to date timemachine backups so if things go south I can restore to the last known good version. I always keep two seperate timemachine hard drive. I have one with the Stable Release, then I have one with beta releases on it.

Time machine is what saving me last time :) Upgrade done for me, and I could say that I've no retina display problem ! We could say that this issue is really 'closed' now with the 14C99d version !

worldchanger commented 9 years ago

That’s 2 confirmed fixes.
