Feature Request: Automatically Cite References by selecting text #1047

I think it would be a great addition if we could automatically link text to citations by simply selecting the text and selecting the cite type from the cite menu. For example if we select [1] and click (Cite->Reference) it automatically cites the first reference. This would be more useful for citation styles such as APA where we select the text (Surname, 2016) and it automatically cites the matching reference.

We could also expand this to determine if the selected text is citing a figure or table.

Our idea to improve this was using a macro like typing "@doe2016 ENTER" which filters the list of references. Similarly you could cite a figure with "@figure1 ENTER".

But your suggestion is interesting too. We could allow both. To be discussed more.
