@substring wassup bro... In this latest GA version 2021.03, I missed the AdvMenuPLUS

any chance of it coming back?

put other front-ends with option to choose which one to use e.g:

that would be very nice

Hey!

Advmenuplus: no way. It's totally outdated.

ES: maybe, but there are dozens of forks RetroFE: tried it, the configuration is just really hard

Other candidates: PegasusFE: this one is my favourite ANy suggestion ... ?

The difficulty is with scraping and setting up the emulator for the existing systems, as their configuration are hardly interoperable.

I installed the GA 2021, it is excellent. I installed Retroarch running in CRT mode, it was perfect, and I found it very simple to put in Attract-mode. What do you think of putting in the system? Because a lot of people also want to run games from Sega Naomi, Atomiswave and consoles.

nipoman commented 3 years ago

I put some Windows games on wine, like Touhou Project and Mugen, which looks wonderful on CRT. I'm just thinking about how to put them in attract-mode 🤔

ES: maybe, but there are dozens of forks

this fork got a lot of updates recently

PegasusFE: this one is my favourite

PegasusFE is very memory consuming

my other suggestion is to add an option where any user can easily choose the front-end in GASetup

@nipoman Looks like you haven't checked in gasetup, the text menu used t oconfigure GA, but you can select a FE. Well OK for now it's just LXDE and Attract, but that's because it takes time to write code that generates the systems and emulators configuration. I do plan to add some others, but lately I've been really busy helping Alphanu moving the Retroarch CRT code to use Switchres2 (hopefully his PR should be integrated soon in Retroarch, works really well, much better than the current code).

@CiTrON-AwP No chance I ever use something from Batocera, quite a long story + such forks have a very strong integration with their OS, which would be a problem in the case of GA ... As stated just above, gasetup has an option to select a frontend. What is missing is configuring the systems automatically.

I vote for ES. It is very restrained in resource consumption and there are very complete and 100% operational forks such as FCAMOD: https://github.com/fabricecaruso/old-EmulationStation-fork---see-batocera-emulationstation-instead

I would also like to see AdvMenuPLUS back in there as an option, This works far better than the other FE's and supports H and V setups without any trouble. Thank you for your continued work on this project, I'm running this on a pair of New Astro City cabs, and it's fantastic. But really missing AdvMenuPLUS for its simplistic use. If it cannot be added in as part of the main project, is there a way I can re add it myself?

I won't add Advmenuplus. That's a totally outdated FE, with some ugly formats, nothing can scrape for it. It's in the original version of GroovyArcade and I got rid of it as soon as possible.

Now regarding ES, work with is being done with the help of @fabricecaruso. This will take quite some time to acjieve since there is an important number of features that d like to support on the first shot, not just with continuous updates
