Interesting discovery if the s3fslite project run by Mr. Russ Ross.  It's on 
github at this location:

http://github.com/russross/s3fslite

There are some potential bug fixes and improvements which might be folded back 
into this code stream.

I think that I've gotten what we can use from the forked project. One 
interesting feature is that s3fslite uses a mysql database to cache the file 
attributes -- this makes directory listing very fast.
