This was one of the feedback we got from the summer workshop in Japan. Japan team is going to add more details.

Prepare the following sound sources that Mr. Nabekura wants. ① electric bass → tone color category ② Vibraphone → Tone color category ③ 鉦 (small Japanese bell) → drum category ③ Sanshin (Okinawa Shamisen) → Tone color category ⑤ Japanese drums → tone color categories Solution - Purchase a sound source that we can have copyright. → I am looking for such a service now. - Sachiko's friend's musician will record. → Is it possible to do? Improve all sound quality. Solution - Buy a sound source with good sound quality. → I do not know if it can be prepared with all the sound sources used by MB. - Use music software to correct the sound source currently used. → Is it realistic?

It would help to try to characterize the quality issues. Some issues, for example, crackling, may be due to the synth rather than the sample. There are some improvements to tone.js that have not landed in a release yet that we may want to explore.

@sakuhiroaki what is the status on this?

pikurasa commented 1 year ago

Yes, we still want better samples.

One option is to add a selection of these: https://github.com/sonic-pi-net/sonic-pi/tree/dev/etc/samples

I think a good group to start with would be all the drum_* files from https://github.com/sonic-pi-net/sonic-pi/tree/dev/etc/samples

For this ticket, please add those sounds by following the directions described in the README for https://github.com/sugarlabs/musicblocks/tree/master/sounds/samples

The drum sounds would be categorized as drums.

For other sounds, we may choose a select group for special effects, but we can start with drums.
