The purpose of this div is to act as a canvas for the fade-to-white effect at the end of each sidebar container (in both L1 and L2), but it's less than ideal that it also obscures links that are not subject to the fadeout at the end of the synopsis tabs. Probably it's also preferable to still be able to click on links that are overlaid by the fadeout effect, as in various L2 tabs when the TEXT and SHODAN MAP accordions are expanded (e.g., /hashitomi/kuse/).
