Why was this change made?

To get clean date ranges from Penn Museum data for the date slider in the UI. This is the recset of issue sul-dlss/dlme-transform/issues/242.

Was the documentation (README, API, wiki, ...) updated?

Actually, I may have merged too fast. The post_process macro may have been needed for something @mjgiarlo is working on.

I'm gonna assume this is ok now, and delete the branch. If there turns out to be a problem, we can address it later.
