MODS records don't index to Thesis/Dissertation Stanford work facet #118

They get Thesis/Dissertation as a genre term, but are in the Book resource type facet.

I'm not sure I understand this ticket. I don't see anywhere we currently use the resource type "Thesis/Dissertation".

@cbeer It's referring to this view: https://searchworks.stanford.edu/catalog?f%5Bgenre_ssim%5D%5B%5D=Thesis%2FDissertation&f%5Bstanford_work_facet_hsim%5D%5B%5D=Thesis%2FDissertation

Got it. That's driven by a different field, not the resource type.

The MARC indexing is driven by some half-baked regular expressions looking at the 502 and 710ab fields. I'm not sure what the equivalent for MODS records would be?

I also thought all Stanford ETDs had MARC records as the authoritative metadata.

<genre> would probably be the place to look to pick it out as a thesis. Department is trickier -- doing it for MARC required some cleanup and normalization, and no doubt the same would be true here.

Doctoral ETDs submitted via the registrar ETD interface have MARC records. There are also theses for master's and other programs that come in via self-deposit and do not get MARC records.
