PDF thumbnail cover preview are shown already, fully functioning. Would be nice to have those file types also show cover previews.

Hi, do you have any update on this feature? Thanks.

musm commented 4 years ago

just found this issue, same problem.

For DJVU I had to install https://www.cuminas.jp/en/downloads/download?pid=5 DjVu Shell Extension Pack

GitHubRulesOK commented 4 years ago

I would naturally suggest the Cuminas application as preferable since it is from the DjVu maintainers

Without checking any performance myself I observe

Documentation seems to be old and compression samples from the site work well rendering in SumatraPDF however sometimes they look like they need changes to work better ? The shell extension for Win7 has not been updated for some time, so would be interested to know how well it performs on Win10. The related (beta for a long time) chrome extension appears to get more negative than positive reviews. Unsure If they are maintaining or simply distributing old products.

musm commented 4 years ago

@GitHubRulesOK from my experience the DJVU shell extensions have worked extremely well on Windows 10 and I run insiders builds. Yeah the software seems old, but still works well it seems.

GitHubRulesOK commented 4 years ago

@musm Ok I just tried it out and it works well enough

The differences compared to SumatraPDF Preview :-

The Cuminas one only shows first page on both thumbnails and preview also "file property details" does show dimensions (presumably of that first page)

SumatraPDF as far as I know does not show any property details, and does not always show the first page on thumbnail (which is odd when looking at two binary identical files as seen on the left below (only the filename differs, and it could simply be because I messed with several filters in that folder) However you can scroll through the preview. The pane is fixed to zoom page by windows there is no zoom width or otherwise just like the PDF released versions. image

So if a DjVu quick preview is all you need, I would stick with Cuminas for now

Just want to note here that ianas' unofficial builds on mega.nz (no official support for them!) include thumbnail handlers for all supported file types.

There's a new fully working epub thumbnail program now. Check it out.

musm commented 3 years ago

Sadly, on a new machine I can no longer get the Cuminas preview handlers working to show DJVU previews...

musm commented 3 years ago

There might be some integration issues with the cuminas preview handlers with onedrive. I found some breadcrumbs here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/developer/file-handlers/?view=odsp-graph-online

clearly it would be better to handle them with sumatra than relyin on cuminas, which is no longer maintained.

GitHubRulesOK commented 3 years ago

@musm Problems with onedrive and other virtual drives / synchronisers can be a source of constant problems for integration of previews, I generally try to avoid using them as if/when they are unstable I have lost too many hours work. My corporate client insists they are active but then they pay me for any lost hours.

This solution worked perfectly, Win 10 Pro, 21H1 version.

Wanted to add, if anyone comes across this, that this works great on W11 22H2 version as well.
