As the Klockheed Martian Special Parts plugin is no longer being maintained, a replacement is needed.

Specifications:

Different buoyancy characteristics in both undeployed and deployed state
Plays inflation automatically on splashdown

As noted above, work on the replacement self-inflating flotation collar has now been spun off into its own add-on.

The SDHI heat shield will also have a new airbag design that will automatically inflate at a certain altitude before landing.

The Comfortable Landing mod now provides most of the desired functionality, and comes with its own flotation collar and righting ball models.

My airbag design will be (hopefully) repurposed for terrestrial landings.

Further assessment indicates that Comfortable Landing will not meet the requirements of SDHI SMS, so I'm putting this on the backburner for now.
