Alarm will not stop on HTC Magic

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set an alarm with the default "how to stop the alarm" setting
2. When the alarm goes off after a night's sleep, press dismiss (previous
versions, drag the slider from left to right)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the alarm to stop. Instead the alarm continues, the screen
eventually goes blank, then back to the alarm main screen. The alarm
continues to ring, my wife gets annoyed. Eventually it stops, though I'm
too tired to figure out when/why. Sometimes I switch the phone off.

Which phone model do you have?

HTC Magic (Vodafone UK)

Please provide any additional information below.

It seems to only happen after a long sleep, suggesting some sort of memory
leak over a long period.

After last update, the option "slide across screen" is removed 
Three is noe no avalible options in the free version with how to turn off alarm
