Here is a summary of the changes:

Removed the word "primary" so as not to ostracize the theory and modeling folks.
Perhaps "made the switch" is incorrect as some people still use Fortran (not just to append to long-standing simulations, but to develop new simulations) -- therefore I used the phrase "began to adopt."
Compare with, not compare to.
Is IDL faster than Fortran? Not trying to start a war here -- but we make the claim, so we should be able to back it up.
I added (SSW) in case people did not know it stood for SolarSoftWare.
There is no transition between the first paragraph and the second. It requires a sentence that presumably motivates a transition from IDL to Python.
I switched paragraphs 4 and 3 to begin with the primary motivating factor.
I appended some words about reproducibility, community-development, and version control to the now fourth paragraph.

After my deep dive into the abbreviations, I will nitpick about adding SSW. Since we don't use SSW anywhere else in the paper, there's really no need to include the abbreviation.

One last nitpick not related to your changes here: In the very last paragraph of the intro, can you change "v0.5" to "version 0.5"? I fixed inconsistent use of v, V, version everywhere else in the paper, but it looks like I missed this one.
