I believe this update doesn't present any issues for the Aardvark theme as it doesn't have a "customized template / renderer method".

I've just updated our Moodle install to 3.5.3+ (Build: 20190111) and have no issues logging in.

Viewing the source of the login page in a browser shows a hidden input with a logintoken is present so assume this is flowing down from Moodle core since the theme doesn't override.
