I'd like to get started customizing firmware like you have done here. I am experienced in C, C++, and Linux, but I have never had the opportunity to make modifications to a device's firmware before.

Can you explain the basic steps you took to obtain the source code of the stereo (by decrypting the bin files I assume?), make your modifications, re-compile, and generate a new update file? You don't have to spend three hours writing exact step-by-step instructions, I just need a general sense of direction and from there I can teach myself. Your help would be really appreciated.
