The current Google Search Box for SharePoint supports searching at a global 
level

Provide the ability to restrict search to current site/list in question

It's hard for people to lose functionality.  SP users have the ability to 
define custom 
search scopes (i.e. personalization) in SharePoint search, and they would like 
to have 
the same functionality in the search box
