Hebrew in wrong direction #116

Hi. I've downloaded STK 0.7 on Windows XP. I was pleased to see that it started in Hebrew; however all strings are reversed - from left to right instead of right to left. (as if written "olleh" instead of "hello")

Thanks

Author: hikerstk Hi,

usually Hebrew and LTR is (mostly) working fine with 0.7 (I assume you downloaded the binary from our webpage? Or did you compile it yourself?)

Do you have an environment variable "LANGUAGE" defined (if so, what is the value)?

Could you also try starting the Windows 'Command prompt', then enter: cd c:\PATH_TO_SUPERTUXKART set LANGUAGE=he_HE supertuxkart.exe (Replace the appropriate path for PATH_TO_SUPERTUXKART). This starts supertuxkart with Hewbrew for me (I admittedly can't read Hebrew, but since we had someone looking at this a while ago, I am quite certain that it looks correct to me :) ).

If this doesn't help, could you provide a screenshot?

Thanks! Joerg

Author: haramaty Hi.

Thanks for the prompt response! A. Indeed, I've downloaded the Windows binary from the website. B. Well, I don't have "language" variable. C. I've tried your suggestion (cd c:\PATH_TO_SUPERTUXKART; set LANGUAGE=he_HE; supertuxkart) It's the same result as before. D. Just to clarify - the game is loaded in Hebrew, but it looks wrong: E. All strings are reversed. The equivalent in English is writing "ecar" instead of "race"; "pleh" instead of "help", etc. F. I've just downloaded it in another computer, and it has the same problem. G. Maybe since that 'someone' looked at the Hebrew text, 'something' has changed... H. Let me give some Hebrew examples. I'm not sure the the Hebrew will pass OK in this site, but let's be optimistic... Should be Should be

Attaching screenshot.

Thanks again, Zvika

Author: auria Joerg, did your 0.7 binary include fribidi?

supertuxkart-sourceforge-migration commented 10 years ago

Author: hikerstk OK, I figured out what happened: apparently I've used the wrong executable in the actual 0.7 package (and my tests were actually done with the correct executable). Strange that no one complained earlier :) And thanks for the screenshot to verify that I was seeing the right things :)

Well, good news is: this is already fixed in the upcoming 0.7.1 release, so I am closing this ticket now. If you should need this fixed urgently, let me know and I'll provide you a new executable (updating the package is something we try to avoid, esp. considering that 0.7.1 should be out soon).

It would also be good if you could check our release candidate to see that everything works as expected - testing things like Hebrew is quite difficult for us ;)

Thanks a lot for your help! Joerg

Author: haramaty Good to hear that is's fixed ... If 0.7.1 is soon, there is no urge to have the fix in 0.7

I'll be glad to check the RC - but where can I find it?

supertuxkart-sourceforge-migration commented 10 years ago

Author: auria The RC is not yet available :) Joerg meant "when we release it" :) If you watch the Supertuxkart homepage, it should come in the following days/weeks
