Author: hikerstk hikerstk: I think this would be an overkill. It makes the GUI more convoluted if we add this as an GUI option (how much would you have to decrease topspeed, and you might end up tweaking it up and down all the time in order to get a 'fair' game ... instead of just enjoying the game), and doing it automatically is too difficult (e.g. is the handicap per player? What if you play against two people, with one you would get a handicap, with the other you would receive one. Then it would take some races just to adjust the handicap).
One option I could see would be that each player can select a separate difficulty (which also affects kart speed).
Author: hikerstk Auria: Joerg, I don't agree that per-player difficulties are appropriate here; for the simple reason that in order to balance gameplay, the best player would need to select "easy" and the less experienced player would need to select "hard"... at the very least we'd need to adapt the wording to work the opposite way in multiplayer games

Hi,
sorry for answering only now, But we had a long weekend at the Australian Open and earlier today my comment got lost (obviously due to the SF security glitch).
In my opinion in multiplayer mode it is essential that there is an adjustable handicap for individual players. Player skills are usually different and there should be a way to level the chances. This is even more important since there are only few games that parents can play with kids and STK is a pleasant exception there.
The alternative is that skilled players always win frustrating the others or that they don't try as hard making it boring for them and probably becoming pretty obvious at some stage.
I would rather have some trial races to assess the individual handicap. And if somebody does not like that feature they don't have to use it!
My proposal would be having 5 handicap levels with a reduction in top speed of 2% in each level. This should not be too complicated to understand and still enable levelling the chances.
There are surely other ways too achieve that although I don't understand hikers proposal. How can the AIs behave different if both players are in the same game?
I understand that implementing a handicap feature might take some time. But maybe for the 2nd or the 3rd next version?
Thanx for the great game! Cheers.

Add adjustable handicap for individual players to enable leveling chances for players with different skills in multiplayer mode. This could be done for example by a reduction of topspeed in steps of 2%.
