Follow the leader races are too random (though this has been improved) and the one existing has been removed because of how much frustration it had generated.
There is now a healthy dose of time-trial races, any more would risk being too much, especially as each track must be played at least once in a normal race with items ; either in its individual challenge or a GP. Until we get a new overworld, with more challenges and reverse challenges, this is pretty much it.
Not closing yet, because I'd like to have some more variety in the future ; with a)a less punitive/frustrating FTL ; b)some egg-hunt derived challenge ; plus of course races in reverse.
I think the new Story Mode challenges in 0.10-git are much better balanced. In previous versions, it was not just FTL, but also outright weird challenges, like races in which ONLY the finishing time counts, and not your rank, or a challenge you literally cannot lose, etc. The weirdness in Story Mode seems to have been finally fixed.
I can understand the elimination of FTL, but that's only because FTL itself is a pretty problematic game mode (even in its current reworked version). I posted in the forum. If FTL is more balanced, it might be OK to add it back.
But I think the fact that the Overworld is so limiting in how you add kind of challenges you can add really sucks. By introducing the Overworld, you have sacrificed a lot fo flexibility, it seems. Maybe the Overworld was a mistake, at least in the way it has been implemented. If you ever plan to rework the Overworld, make it so that changes and additions are easy for you. It's not good when it's always such a huge deal when new challenges need to be added.
I don't think Egg Hunt should ever be in Story Mode. 3-Strikes Battle, maybe. But Egg Hunt is more like a side-mode than anything else and is very different from anything else in the game. I see Egg Hunt more as a bonus. It also totally does not fit the narrative.
Instead of adding Egg Hunt to Story Mode, I would actually add an “Egg Hunt Mode”, completely separate from Story Mode. The goal here would be to simply finish all Egg Hunts in each difficulty (except SuperTux), so the player can actually see the progress in Egg Hunt.

Gameplay-wise, egg hunt is a very nice mode. It tasks the player to explore to find the eggs, then to find the faster route which can allow him to collect all the eggs, then to execute it. The only thing I really dislike in the current egg hunt mode are the items which don't make sense there.
As for the narrative, the point of a "derived" challenge would be exactly this, replacing the eggs by something else which can make some more sense in the story.

Most likely, there would instead be an achievement. Actually, the only thing blocking the addition of such an achievement is server-side code with the whole "sync achievement with online profile", which is completely unadapted to handle any addition, removal or replacement of achievements.
I think achievements for Egg Hunt are not a good way to track progress in Egg Hunt. I'm not against the achievements as such, but I say they should not be considered a replacement for properly tracking progress.
That would be as bad as not showing the trophies in Story Mode for the challenges, and only give an achivement after having completed all of them.
What I'm saying this, the player is left guessing which egg hunts are still not completed yet. You are assuming perfect memory from each player.
Multi-goal achievements can show progress for the subgoals.
It is intended for Christoffel Colombus to show you which tracks you have not completed, for example.
That's a bit better, I agree. But a bit less convenient.

some time-trial and follow-leader-races more would be good, this is more variety and you have more stuff for storymode
