The two main ways to tackle this, that can be combined, are:

Tweak the background of the most problematic skins to enhance contrast.
Use a modified (lighter or darker) skin-specific color to render text meant to follow team colors.

Lighter skins may also benefit from enhancements in this regard, especially if new team colors are introduced.

Skins already have the option to specify custom list_red and list_blue colors.

Leaving open as the commit doesn't fully fix the situation. The grey backgrounds simply don't mesh well with colored text.
