We inherited this from Arduino-0012:

The SIGNAL(SIG_OVERFLOW0) routine was rewritten but in a very inefficient way:
o Using too much time
o Not allowing the routine to be interruptable by higher priority tasks

Suggestion: Revert or rewrite
