Stochas not showing up after installation #39

Open astrodelic opened 3 years ago

Hello dear Surge Synth Team people, I'm on an iMac running High Sierra 10.13.6 and after installing Stochas, it doesn't appear in any of my DAWs (Ableton Live 9 and Bitwig). Any chance you can help me sort this out so I can use what seems to be a very exciting sequencer and spice up my melody making? :) I run the 1.3.3 Installer for mac... Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, it should give you the choice of AU or VST3. Verify that your DAW supports one of these (some older DAWs support VST2 but not VST3). If you want to use the AU version, bear in mind that we have built this AU in a specific configuration for Logic. You could try to build it in a different configuration. Specifically you can try running cmake with -DSTOCHAS_IS_SYNTH=TRUE and/or -DSTOCHAS_IS_MIDI_EFFECT=FALSE. We are still trying to figure out which DAWs have issues with default configuration.

Hello, thanks for the fast reply. I can't use VST3 in Ableton which is my primary DAW and I can't find it on Bitwig either. Unfortunately for me I don't have any knowledge or experience with cmake, to build it in a different configuration, but I'll try to look into what you say as soon as I have some spare time. Thanks again for trying to help.

We do not currently sign any of the mac bundles with a signature here in surge-synth-team land, stochas included. When I loaded it in bitwig I got a "cannot check for malicious software" problem.

To fix that I had to allow it in security settings then rescan, then restart bitwig, and then it was there. ( I also did a check load in reaper).

I made a short video about how to do this with an AU over on the surge synth team youtube page. Perhaps it helps?

I have the same problem, running macOS 10.15.7 and Ableton Live 10.1.30. I installed the AU version but it does not show up in the plugin list. Rescanned the plugins, restarted Live and my computer, nothing. Tried it with and without the installer, same results.

EDIT: checked security settings, nothing’s there.

I have downloaded Stochas and tried to install the 64bit vst3 version, but it is not being identified as a plugin by Ableton Live 11. I have rescanned the plug-in folders to no avail. Other vst3 plugins (including Surge) are working with no issues. Can anyone help with a not too technical solution, please?

Hi can you tell me whether you installed the latest release build or the latest developer build?

EDLUK commented 3 years ago

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me.

I installed release 1.3.4 which I believe is the latest stable release.

My OS is Windows 10 Home.

My Daw is Ableton Live 11.0.1

Can you try the developer release to see if it makes a difference? The link is here: https://github.com/surge-synthesizer/stochas/releases/download/developer/stochas_windows_installer.exe

Hi Andrew,

I may have to leave ita a couple of days but I will give it a go and let you know the outcome.

Hi Andrew

I seem to have resolved this somehow. I tried downloading the developer version as you suggested, but my anti-virus detected an issue: WS.REPUTATION.1 and quarantined the download.

However, I retried the install with the download from yesterday, and it installed without a problem. Only one minor issue: the Ableton Browser Pane detects it in the Surge Synth sub-folder in VST3, although it is installed into a subfolder named Stochas that I chose when installing it. Possibly a peculiarity of vst3.

Anyway, it is working so I will play with it over the next few days and weeks.

Many thanks for your response to my issue

Hi, I hope this helps. I use Digital Performer 10 in High Sierra 10.13.6 on a 2011 Macbook Pro 8,1.

Neither the AU nor the VST3 will load into DP10. There should be a disabled AU in the Audio Plugin Preferences pane, but there is on the VST3 and it FAILs check and will not load at all. I tried with Stochas 1.3.5 - the standalone opens, though I haven't played it yet. Screen Shot 2022-07-17 at 4 52 58 AM

DP 10 is freely downloadable from the MOTU website and i believe it will run in demo mode if you need it for testing purposes.

Thanks a bunch,

Glenn
