Mockly is an open-source tool that allows developers to create professional-looking screenshots and mockups with ease. It's designed for fast, stress-free mockups for developers who'd rather code than design.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently, Mockly excels at creating beautiful mockups and screenshots, but for users looking to create quick and professional video demos or tutorials, there’s no built-in video editing tool. Adding a video editor will allow users to create both static and dynamic content within the same tool, saving time and effort.
Describe the feature you'd like
I’d like to see a video editor integrated into Mockly, allowing users to:
Record screen or upload video files directly within the app.
Add annotations (text, arrows, highlights) on top of the video.
Trim, cut, and merge clips for basic video editing.
Export videos in common formats like MP4 and GIF.
This would complement the existing mockup creation tools by enabling users to create video tutorials, showcase app functionality, or generate marketing content—without leaving the app.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Currently, I’m using third-party video editing tools (like OBS or Camtasia) alongside Mockly, but integrating a basic video editor would streamline the workflow and keep everything in one place. There are also browser-based video editors available, but they don't integrate with Mockly’s core features.
Possible Implementation Details
Branch: This feature is being actively worked on in the feature/video branch.
UI/UX Considerations: The video editor could be added as a separate tab in the sidebar or a new section within the existing interface. It should follow the same minimalist, developer-friendly design philosophy as the rest of Mockly.
Editing Features:
Basic timeline functionality for trimming and clipping.
Ability to overlay elements like text or shapes on the video.
Export options in multiple formats (MP4, GIF, etc.).
Additional context
This would make Mockly a one-stop solution for developers and marketers who need to quickly create both static and dynamic content. Below is a mockup of how the video editor interface could look:
Optional Sections (if relevant):
Priority: High
Are you willing to submit a PR for this feature?: N/A (branch in progress)
Does this feature require changes in documentation?: Yes, the new feature will need documentation on how to use the video editor.
Thank You!
This feature would be a valuable addition to the tool, and I’m excited to see the progress on the feature/video branch!
