Based on a misunderstanding earlier, a neat game mechanic was thought of between my friends.
An option to make the Totem of Preserving act as though you have 'Keep Inventory', but the totem itself drops where you die.
This allows you to always be able to recover your items, but also encourage you to return to the site of your death to recover the totem.
For clarity, these would be the changes:
The totem will never break.
You keep all your items in your inventory on death, besides the totem.
The totem drops where you die.
This encourages rescue missions for the totem, while still ensuring you keep your main gear with you.
It does mean the totem will burn in lava (unless it's already immune or something, on account of looking like Netherite), but that seems fair.
I'd understand if this isn't something you'll consider, but me and my friends agree that it would be a fun and unique take on inventory preserving.
