chore: drops support for node 14 and commonjs BREAKING #186

Description

drops node14 support
removes the commonjs build (we're using top level awaits now, and our build tool chain can't translate that into commonjs)
replaces all uses of require with dynamic imports

Motivation and Context

simplifies maintenance
node will drop support for node 14 soon anyway
