Test and document a restore

Normal setup

• Raspi 4, 4GB
• USB hard drive connected to raspi, boots from here
• No SD card inserted

Alternative setup

• SD Card only
• USB hard drive not attached

Prepare backup SD card

• Flash standard image onto it, insert SD card, SD card switch pointing towards Thinkpad
  • https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/raspberrypi
• start "belena etcher" as root.
• if flashing fails, repeat after https://willy-tech.de/sd-karte-mit-diskpart-formatieren/ or download image first, flash from file

Restore HA from failure

• Turn off heating, so counter doesn't get skewed
• Shutdown host (via Supervisor)
• Disconnect power supply
• Pop the SD card into the Raspi, disconnect USB drive
• Connect power supply
• Once up and running (http://192.168.178.83:8123/) wait for 10-15in, then restore backup (which is likely an older version)
  • "Alternatively you can restore from a previous backup."
  • Pick the latest snapshot stored on GDrive (should be full backuo)
  • wait ...
  • failed 👎
• Once backup restored, update everything to newest version and check errors.
• If everything looks ok
  • remove SD card
  • connect USB drive
  • reboot
  • update
• If something fails
  • remove SD card
  • connect USB drive,
  • reboot
  • don't update.
• Turn heating back on, turn MQTT back on at http://ems-esp/
